The Blackbird and the Chimney
One afternoon, as a blackbird raced across
a rooftop, it tripped and fell down a chimney and became lodged
in the chute. The blackbird struggled and struggled but was unable
to free itself. The chimney, which felt sympathy for the scared
bird, nudged one of its bricks out until it fell to the ground
below. Quickly, the blackbird squeezed out of the hole and flew
away. The next day, the home's owner noticed the brick lying
in her yard, and then glanced up at the chimney, which had deteriorated
from years of neglect. So the owner fixed and cleaned the chimney,
and the chimney lived happily for years to come.
