The Cannon and the Fox

There once was a lonely old cannon that sat in a historic battlefield where tourists came to visit. One day a fox approached the cannon and then dashed away. "Please come back," the cannon said. "I need a companion."

"No," the fox said. "I have heard of the power of cannons. You can demolish a building or kill many soldiers in one blast."

"No, no," the cannon pleaded. "I am only dangerous when humans use me for war and shoot cannonballs out of me. I am harmless on my own."

The fox raised his eyebrows. "That is quite a difference," he said.

Then the fox walked over to the cannon, relieved himself all over the poor soul, and strutted away laughing.
