The
Cold Moon
One
day the moon became cold. When a group of astronomers noticed
how uncomfortable the moon was, they asked, "What is wrong,
poor moon?"
"I
am very cold," the moon replied, "and I keep getting
colder."
Feeling
for the moon, the astronomers notified the public, and a solution
was debated until humanity agreed to work together and knit a
large quilt. Artists supervised the grand undertaking, and people
from every land contributed labor to the project.
After
months of hard work, a beautiful quilt with thousands of color
patterns was completed. Then a giant human ladder was built,
and the quilt was lifted up into space and draped over the excited
moon. The moon was now warm and cozy, and humans looked to the
sky and admired their glowing handiwork.
But
as the weeks went by, humans could no longer see the moon, which
they desired for beauty and inspiration. So they looked up to
the moon and said, "We know you love your quilt, but we
can't live without your beauty."
Feeling
a duty to its friends, the moon took the quilt off and bore the
cold. The humans were happy to see the moon shine in the sky
again, but the moon became colder and colder each day until it
became so cold that it cracked and fell down to the earth.
