The Cookie Jar and the Dog
One day a bored cookie jar left its home and
traveled across the countryside until it met a dog. "Would
you like to try a chocolate chip cookie?" the cookie jar
asked.
The dog tried a cookie and enjoyed it. Then
he spent the remainder of the day gobbling up cookies and talking
with the cookie jar. From that day forward, anytime the cookie
jar was filled with a new batch of cookies, it took them to the
dog that ate them with delight. Before long, the dog fell in
love with the cookie jar.
Then one day, the dog wanted to surprise the
cookie jar with a visit. As he approached the cookie jar's home,
he looked through a window of the cottage and saw an elderly
woman filling the cookie jar with dozens of oatmeal cookies.
The dog was confused and left quietly.
For a week the cookie jar tried to see the
dog, but he was not in their usual meeting place; so it searched
for its love, and soon it found him near a small creek. "What
happened to you?" the cookie jar asked.
"I'm sorry," the dog replied, "but
I loved you for your cookies, and I now know they come from somebody
else."
