Jupiter
and the Dog
One
night Jupiter dropped a biscuit down to Earth for a starving
dog. As the dog enjoyed the meal, he talked with Jupiter, and
the two became friends. "Come back anytime. I am up here
every night," Jupiter said.
Over
the next several weeks, the dog succeeded in finding plenty of
meals and shelter. But one night he was lonely and hungry, so
he returned to the spot where he had met Jupiter, hoping for
companionship and another biscuit. The dog did not see his friend,
and when he returned each night, he saw no signs of the giant
planet. So one night the dog wandered through the countryside,
and hours later he saw Jupiter above him. "Why did you leave?"
the dog asked. "I have been lookinjg for you."
"I
move across the sky in a different path every night," Jupiter
replied. "If you want to remain friends, you have to understand
my nature."
