The
Queen and the Chefs
A queen
desired a new dessert chef, so her attendants gathered the hundred
best chefs in the kingdom and brought them to the castle. Each
chef baked a pie, and then the chefs lined up in a row, holding
their pie on a silver platter. The queen walked down the row,
sampling a piece from each pie, including her favorites: coconut
cream, peach, and strawberry rhubarb. When she neared the end
of the line, she came to a chef who held a platter with only
a few crumbs on it. "What is this? Where is your pie?"
the queen asked.
"I
am sorry, Your Highness," the chef replied, glancing at
a blushing chef to his right. "I looked forward to this
opportunity, but my pie looked and smelled so good that my colleague
insisted on eating it."
After
examining the demeanor of the two chefs, the queen said, "That
is the best evidence I could have. You will be my new dessert
chef, but at my table there must be enough for everyone."
