A day before Halloween, a family carved a macabre face into a pumpkin. When the pumpkin was set outside on the stairwell, an untouched pumpkin on a lower step said, "You are grotesque. You have been vandalized by human hands."

"Please be kind," said the carved pumpkin. "I had no choice in the matter."
