There once was a elderly quilter, who was an excellent craftsman and lived very happily. One day the quilter reflected on her life, which had been dedicated to her art, and she believed she was too insulated from the rest of humanity. So she went to God and said,"I feel guilty about my happiness, and I want to see everything in the world."
"Show me how to make beautiful quilts, and for one day I will give you eyes that see everything," God said.
The quilter demonstrated all her talent and skills in quiltmaking, which put a smile on the face of God, who returned the favor by giving her eyes that could see all. When the quilter witnessed all the pain and suffering in the world, she was overwhelmed and no longer believed her quiltmaking amounted to anything. But God could see the goodness in humanity, and the new quilts God made relieved some of the suffering.
